Ben,
I am planning to have a special meeting with the Historic Preservation Commission Dec
11, 2023 at 3pm. The building you are make the request for is in the Warehouse
District, which as I am sure you know has different guidelines than the Downtown
District. They are much more detailed than the downtown guidelines which are much
more general. I wanted to share with you ahead of time the worksheet that they will j
be using to make a decision. The information you provide for the meeting will need to
be submitted to me no later than Dec 7, 2023 because I have to be able to make a
recommendation. These guidelines include criteria for each element of the building
that you are proposing to change. Please be sure to include as much detail as possible.

Ben,
Sure we can visit, with historic preservation guidelines, the devil is in the details. I
need details and elevations of the building when it is finished. You have shown where
the work.will occur on the building and listed what the type of work that is going to be
done, but you didn't provide a rendering of the finished product, examples of windows,
metal roofing, doors, staircase materials etc.
For example:
On page 47 of the Warehouse Historic Design Guidelines there is a photo and
description of this building:
11. HISTORIC PRESERVATION ION PROJECT PLANNING

t.
its design.
If the original is double-hung, then the repiacemen
c
window should also be double-hung or appear to b+
so. Match the replacement also in the number and j
position of glass panes.
i
Matching the original design is particularly importan
' on key character-defining walls.7 `
Preserve the functional and deco-
rative features of historic window.
did. TWIN FALLS WAREHOUSE HISTORIC DISTRICT DESIGN GUIDELINE
I need to see a sample of the windows you are proposing to replace the old windows
with, a key point is to replace the wood double hung windows with double hung
windows or ones that appear to be double hung. Replace vertical siding with vertical
siding, sliding service doors with sliding service doors. I don't see any of this
information in this application.
These are the types of things the commissioners are going to look at when I send
them the staff report packet. I want this process to go smoothly but without the
details I am not able to recommend any type of approval.

I did have a response from the commission chairman about the application and he said
professional renderings would be helpful. While he appreciates the need for the
improvements, what has been provided would not be sufficient enough for him to
make a decision.
