All proposed changes are highlighted in Yellow. Nothing is set in stone so let’s talk about these if anyone has ques?ons or concerns. Please make sure to reply to all so everyone can see the responses. If we need too, we can certainly get together on a TEAMS mee?ng soon. The biggest change that you will see is on the patrol side with the addi?on of a Muzzle exercise with contact. Presently, law enforcement K-9’s are under a lot of legal scru?ny and I think it is important for us to be ahead of poten?al issues instead of trying to defend ourselves on the stand when we are asked why we cer?fied a par?cular team. If you remember back to the beginning of the year when I sent out the 2022 stats, I commented on how much the failure rate had increased. We are seeing that folks are simply training to the standard and not to a real deployment. The POST standard is a minimum and there are teams struggling to meet that bare minimum. The cross over from cer?fica?on to real deployment in detec?on is not too substan?al but the crossover from cer?fica?on to real deployment in patrol is vast. So I have made a couple of minor changes to the detec?on standards based on current case law and what I have recently seen throughout the state. The Patrol standards, there will be some more robust changes but nothing crazy and I am sure that most of you already training this stuff. As always, nothing is set in stone un?l we are able to discuss as a group. I am adding the informa?on to the current procedure with yellow highlight to draw your a?en?on to the changes. I am s?ll working on the en?re document but I wanted to send an email to give you all a heads up that it was coming. Probably the first part of next week, be looking for it. Thank you for what you do. I appreciate all of you! 2 J IL N ICHOLS D EPUTY D IVISION A DMINISTRATOR K-9 C OORDINATOR Idaho Peace Officer Standards & Training 700 S.
