It doesn’t sit well with me how suddenly this Tinelson/TDS stuff just got handed to me. I never agreed to it and wasn’t part of building the process. Troy told me to think about it and we would have a discussion. That discussion never happened. Then I see an email from Erin thanking me for taking it. Ever since Josh and Erin moved to public works this has happened a lot. I took Josh’s Shoshone Project. Sam took Erin’s flying sewer project. AC took Erin’s CIPP template design contracting project. I took the Kimberly Waterline because Erin and Josh are to busy. When we had our public works pow-wow I got handed the police parking lot. Currently this is what I have on my plate this year. 1. We’re going forward with Design on the Federal Aid Washington/Filer 2. If we find money I have to start design on the Waterline for Washington/Filer. But we probably won’t so maybe I should stop the design to relieve me despite the grant moneys. 3. Urban Renewal support. I’ve just negotiated a contract to demo an old building URA wanted cleaned up. 4. Eastland Street Design/Construction 5. Eastland Water Design/Construction Huge time obligations 6. Eastland ROW negotiation. I’m responsible for 6 of 8 parcels because we can’t afford the ROW negotiator for more 7. All the regular ROW permits have been unusually active with 5 or 6 a week. Our inspectors are scrutinizing our process along with Trevor Root; So for something that used to be the assistant City Engineers responsibility I’m feeling pretty overwhelmed and undervalued. 8. We just opened bids for Kimberly which will start soon. 270 working days of us tearing up a State Highway with limited oversight moneys which I happily will help with for us to be responsible and to keep Rob from having a breakdown. This is going to take a lot of my time. 9. Still working on our State Signal Agreement. 10. Police Parking lot design/construction/oversight. In my entire career I’ve never selected a consultant started the design process and then Handed my stuff off for someone else to complete. A few people have got some nice promotions in the last couple years. I’m not one of them. But it sits tough with me when my work load doubles and I hear about all the Q2 time that Public Works has to think about handing work to Engineering. I’d appreciate a little deeper discussion before managers reallocate work to me. Erin was just given a couple of big and important projects. You taking over the TDS permitting has allowed that to happen. Thank you for your help with that. Pedro and Larry will be in town next week, so I will look at your calendar and set something up. Thank you for taking this over; we have worked out the major bugs, and this should be an easy transition. We should also sit down and go through all the details. Would Friday the 14th work for you? Please let me know if that will work. Thanks, Erin L. Steel, P.E. Assistant Public Works Director City of Twin Falls (208) 736-2275 ext. 1211 esteel@tfid.org 2 3
