Thueson, On Saturday morning at 02:54 hours, Officer Howard responded to a welfare check at the public library. The reporting party, Leisha Marler, indicated that there was a male lying in the parking lot and appeared to have been run over. Officer Howard arrived, along with Sgt. Hayes, and discovered an unconscious male who was breathing but had some minor injuries to his hands and arms. He seemed highly intoxicated and was unable to communicate. Paramedics were called, and the male was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Officer Howard identified the male as 17 years old from the information he blurted out during the conversation with the paramedics. The male's father and stepmother were contacted and went to the hospital. The next afternoon, on 07/13/2024, the stepmother and father obtained some information from their son. He claimed to have been hit by a vehicle. Officer Perkins followed up and confirmed that a white SUV had struck him in the parking lot around 01:49. The vehicle left after hitting him on the driver's side and leaving him unconscious in the middle of the lot. The occupants of the white SUV even returned around 30 minutes later to pick up another vehicle and left again before Leisha Marler contacted law enforcement. Officer Howard, Jordan, and Mandzic conducted research and found a possible lead on the driver and the location of the vehicle. Officer Jordan and Mandzic located the subject while Officer Howard spoke with the victim and determined his injuries. Officer Jordan was able to corroborate a story that all involved were in a physical altercation with each other that evening, and the driver tried to swerve to avoid hitting the victim but ended up striking him. They even attempted to clean the vehicle at Tommy's Express to remove any evidence. The driver, who was only 16 years old, was taken into custody for leaving the scene of an injury accident and destruction of evidence. The other occupants were 19 and 20. Officer Howard is working on other charges for those involved, and the driver's phone has been seized as it is believed to contain video evidence and deleted photos of the vehicle prior to being washed. Sgt. Coronado was contacted and advised to ensure completion of an accident report. The victim had no major injuries other than some bumps, bruises, and scratches, his BAC was .331 upon admittance to the hospital. The case number is 24003363. It was another great example of two teams working together to solve a crime in our city. Josh Hayes Sgt.
