Our Code Enforcement crew has a tough job all the time, but especially this time of year as weeds are going crazy all over town. They are inundated with calls from people complaining about the weeds all over town. They are doing a great job keeping up with the call load. You may not know this, but our Code Enforcement team work primarily by responding to complaints. You are not the first, and I don’t think you’ll be the last, to mention the median on Pole Line. Our Parks & Rec team is responsible for maintaining the median. Sean and his Code Enforcement team has already reached out to Wendy and the Parks & Rec team about the issue. We hire a landscape contractor to do that work on our behalf. A couple weeks ago, that contractor quit on us with no notice. Chance has been scrambling to find a replacement contractor ever since. After being told “no” by several, we finally found a contractor that agreed to take on the job. He just started this past weekend. I believe that we will see significant progress in cleaning up the weeds from the Pole Line median before ten days pass. It is something that we have made a priority for our own properties because we do expect to hold ourselves to the same standards that we hold private properties to. Our Parks & Rec team typically do a great job keeping our properties in good shape too. It was this turnover with the contractor, without notice, that caught us off guard. We think we have that addressed now. Thanks again for including me. Please let me know if you see other places where we could improve. I would like to take this opportunity to file a complaint regarding the weeds, grass and rubbish on city property, specifically the landscape median in Pole Line Road west of Blue Lakes. There are weeds so large they block visibility. This shows a disregard for the beauty of the community and distracts from the efforts made my private property owner. I would expect this cleanup can happen within the 10 days normally allocated a tax payer to clean up issues resulting in a violation. Mitch, You really need to take a look. Perhaps the enforcement officers could get a little experience in the efforts related to maintenance and pride in their community. I will furnish a spade to each officer so equipment is not an excuse. Gerald Martens gmartens@ehminc.com 208.420.2461 2
