NOTICE OF TESTING FOR SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT - UPDATED

DIVISION: Patrol
POSITION: CRISIS NEGOTIATION UNIT (CNU) MEMBER
EFFECTIVE: Upon selection
PURPOSE: The mission of the CNU is to respond in hazardous situations which are beyond the
normal scope of Patrol Officers and which require special negotiations skills and
techniques. Situations may include: armed or barricaded suspects; hostage situations,
suicidal subjects; any other situation as called upon by the Chief of Police.
The CNU currently has two (2) openings to fill. All eligible and interested sworn officers are encouraged to apply.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Three (3) years of continuous service with the Twin Falls Police Department (TFPD), or two (2) years with
the TFPD and one (1) year of continuous service in a fulltime, sworn capacity with another law enforcement
agency.
2. Employees competing for the assignment shall not be on disciplinary probation at the time of application and
selection.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Those interested in participating in the testing process must submit the following
items to Lieutenant Wilson by 17:00 hours on Friday, April 28, 2017.
1. Letter of Interest - Each applicant shall submit a one-page cover letter summarizing why he/she is seeking
this assignment and a résumé which highlights the applicant’s background and experience, including TFPD
work history and any relevant training that has prepared the applicant for this assignment.
2. Letter of Recommendation from immediate supervisor – Letters shall follow the outline stated in the
Twin Falls Police Department’s Policy Manual; 1028.2 Application and Placement.
SELECTION PROCESS:
Supervisory Review – The CNU Supervisor and the Administrative Staff will complete an evaluation of each
applicant to include an assessment of each applicant’s work history and performance, seniority, training and
experience, communication skills, teamwork and customer service. All qualified applicants not selected for the
position will stay on a list for a period of one (1) year, or until it is determined that a new selection process is
required.
FINAL SELECTION:
The final selection will be made by the Chief of Police based on the recommendation of the supervisory review.
