Good afternoon, everybody -
Just out of curiosity, does any Illinois, multi-agency communications center monitor LPR software
and if so, what is the role of your center? Do you have an SOP you are willing to share?
Any help feedback is greatly appreciated!

Good Afternoon,
I am looking to see if any smaller agencies (under 15 dispatchers) do any classroom training prior
to going with their trainer. If you do how long does your classroom training go for and what do you
include?

The Editorial Committee is looking for your stories related to video and the impact it is having in
your center.
3
Please share the following:
How long have you had the capability of receiving video during a call in your center?
Has video had a positive or negative impact on your telecommunicators?
What are some of your success stories?
What are some of your failures?
Has your center increased the amount of employee assistance program (EAP) support as a
result of video?
How has your agency communicated video capabilities to your community? If so, by what
means i.e. press release, billboards, local news?
Please advise if you are comfortable being quoted. If not, your personal information will be kept
anonymous.
As a related sidebar topic, we are also looking for information related to real time crime centers
(RTCC) and how video feeds are impacting your agency in the RTCC.
Thank you in advance for any information you are willing to share. If you are not comfortable
sharing in this forum, please feel free to email me directly at cara.vermillion@gmail.com.

Our agency is looking for alternate methods to our fee structure for fire agencies. We currently
have a fee structure that divides the overall fire/EMS budget among the 7 agencies based on their
percentage of calls for service from the prior year. Our agencies are looking for other funding
models. Any input would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Knowing about EVs is great if the caller has that information, but the caller is often the weak link.
Also remember that to most callers steam from a radiator is a car fire and antifreeze (despite the
color) is a gasoline leak. While this is mostly well intentioned, it will lead to a lot of over
dispatching. The domino effect of which is often like the boy who cried wolf.
5
One of our firefighters bought a Tesla, he asked his dealer for the emergency response guide.
Tesla said to stark with 4,000 gallons of water and work up from there. However the EPA is saying
to let them burn because the runoff water is contaminated and it may be the fire department's
responsibility for the release.
We had one of these a couple of weeks ago. Chief estimated using 20,000 gallons of water.
Called in a regional Haz Mat Team. Our State DEP came down and the car was taken by a clean
up contractor (2 hour + response time). However they transported it in a roll off dumpster type
container, which required a rotator tow truck to put the car inside. This was a very complex and
expensive call, and even a city as big as ours called in out of town resources.

We are currently working on a protocol to involve this information for our responders. The reason
FD needs to know this is because it changes just how they respond. So as far as
telecommunicators go if it is a MVA or VEH fire or something FD would respond to, they just need
to ask is your vehicle electric or hybrid. It is also important to know this information come winter
time in those areas as EV will not run as long as gas powered vehicles and they can become a
priority call depending on how your department handles that information.

I would also be interested in any training that staff could have on this - the FD has done training
and they have asked us to please let them know so that they have the situational awareness on
what they are rolling up to, but even looking in the NFPA site, it's really for fire /ems and not us
(GM had the same thing).

I'm not sure there is really much we can do, but if there is I would like to have staff to have those

Most manufacturers will provide training. I was able through my volunteer fire department to
attend free training from a Canadian company that makes the electric transit busses my state
uses. Due to a fire, that who fleet has been grounded. But the class was specific to their product.
While I have seen some more general training for the fire service, I haven't seen anything specific
to dispatchers. I suspect that some of the fire based training could be adapted, but it might riske
getting to in depth about operational issues and not contain enough about the call taking and
resources allocation.

Thank you Alan - I did see an article in Fire/Rescue I think that talked about it took 250,000
gallons of water to extinguish a Tesla car that caught fire. I like the idea about let them burn so
they consume the hazardous materials instead of creating runoff. Thank you again for the input.

We're hearing the same from several of our PSAPs. Promised features are often 'in development'
or not as the salesperson described. We're told that the 'integration between the CAD and their
call handling solution leaves much to be desired. Is anyone else experiencing that?

Central Square's tech support leaves much to be desired! Too often, they play the "that's not our
issue" card, only to find out days/weeks later that it actually was. We even had a situation where
our phone vendor tech had to fix a CAD issue for us, because Central Square was nonresponsive.
Decent product, but terrible tech support.

We are in the middle of an RFP process for a new CAD and RMS system. We have narrowed it
down and are looking for end-user insight. We requested a Cloud-based system for both and have
favorable responses from Hexagon in their OnCall product, as well as Central Square's Enterprise
solution. Our 911 center has about 25 dispatchers and we dispatch Police and Fire for ourselves
and a neighboring agency. We have about 110 sworn police officers and 105 sworn firefighters.
We would be very appreciative of your insight and opinion.

Hello,
We do not have either of these systems, but I have had my ear to the ground for a number of
years for CAD/RMS replacement and have reviewed both of these systems. Much of what I have
heard from people who are leaving Central Square is that there customer service and
responsiveness has led them to find a new system. I have only ever heard good things about
14
Hexagon.
Hope that helps. Good Luck!

We are on Central Square Enterprise. We haven't had any major issues and in dispatch we have
not had to call their customer support. Our IT has worked closely and very well with the folks at
Central Square so as far as I know we have not had anything crazy on the CAD side. When I have
chatted with anyone from CS they are open to ideas and seem like they listen.
I can't speak directly to the RMS side of things as we use that sporadically but have not had
issues with generic searches.
