Hang in there! On the TDS thing. They have been in the Valley for a few years now and one thing to know is they are fast and furious. Footage and money are the bottom line. We and others purveyors in the valley have struggled with them on several fronts such as not potholing prior to bores, lack of communications in relation to project schedules, poor locate directions, excessive locates beyond their abilities, you name it. It got to a point where ADA County shut them down and 2 stopped permit issuance to try and get them under control. They had to correct installation issues and restore neighborhoods from their equipment damage. It was a mess. They are just getting ready to start back up again and we are fearing that our three full time locaters won’t be able to keep up. They expect to be running 12 plus crews daily at a rate of 30,000 ft monthly to start then ramp up to 50,000 ft shortly after. In order to keep up with things, we now have quarterly meetings with their managing team so we can be prepared for what’s coming as well as get daily project/work schedules from their contractors so we know where they are in town. So far things are getting better and everyone is trying to do their part to make things successful, but do keep an eye out for them crossing facilities, especially sewer laterals. Not sure if you are responsible to the property line like we are, but they have damaged them the most. Sadly, you don’t know it until weeks later and at that point customers are involved, its just not fun. Anyways, I’ve said probably too much, but just be prepared on your end to locate, locate quickly, and locate accurately. Boring machines are the Devil! Afternoon John, Hope all is well. Unfortunately I won’t be able to this year we are down a couple Engineers, the PW Director resigned, and we will be down 4 operators during start-up of the irrigation season this year. On another note, we have TDS coming into town, a contractor installing fiber to all the residences in the city. Has anyone delt with this? I hear they have been around Idaho doing work. Did it go well and all problems taken care of? We are also wondering do you have an employee that locates city owned utilities or do you contract them out to someone and if you do what does that cost? We have a locator in house, but the shear number of locates coming with this contractor is going to make it to where we need another locator, or look at contracting it out. Thanks for any info in advance! Looking for interest in representing the IWUC for the 2022 Water Matters Fly-In. Date April 27 – 28 in Washington DC. Alternatively this could be setup as a virtual Fly-In from Idaho as well. th Deadline to get hotel in the AWWA block is April 4. Unfortunately this conflicts with the PNWS AWWA Section Meeting this year. If you are interested in representing the IWUC for the Fly-In please let me know as soon as possible so we can get you in the que with AWWA and you can get your hotel arrangements. The in person Fly-In would be for one person but a virtual Fly-In could be a couple people on an MS Teams or Zoom call. Please let me know if you can or cannot attend. Thank you.
