General Statement of Duties
Provides general office and clerical assistance to the Utility Billing Department; performs
related work as required.
Classification Summary
The principal function of an employee in this class is to perform general clerical. The work is
performed under the general supervision of the Utility Billing Supervisor using defined work
processes and procedures. The nature of the work performed is routine and interactions with
others is limited to internal customers, primarily within assigned department. The principal
duties of this class are performed in a general office environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Provide general office and clerical assistance to the Utility Billing Department;
• Retrieves departmental mail, and sorts and distributes to appropriate personnel or
department;
• Opens, sorts and processes utility billing payments:
• Process payments for code enforcement and other fees, and apply to appropriate
accounts;
Other Duties and Responsibilities
• Performs other related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
• Personal computers and related software;
• Billing procedures and practices;
• Business arithmetic and record keeping requirements;

Skill to:
• Operate a 10 key machine by touch;
• Operate a billing processing machine and verifying images are posted to correct
account;
Ability to:
• Handle confidential customer information with tact and discretion;
• Make mathematical computations rapidly and accurately, manually or on office equipment;
• Learn new methods and procedures;
• Maintain a professional demeanor during stressful situations;
• Work independently or cooperatively as a member of a team to complete work on schedule
and according to quality control standards;
• Communicate effectively and maintain working relationships with other employees:
• Understand and make work decisions in accordance with office rules, regulations, policies
and procedures;
• Understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures and instructions.
Acceptable Experience and Training
• High school diploma or equivalent general educational development (GED) certification;
• Two (2) years of experience in a similar AP/AR position
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and
abilities necessary to perform the work.
Essential Physical Abilities
• Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or
without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to communicate
effectively;
• Sufficient vision or other powers of observation, with or without reasonable
accommodation, which permits the employee to analyze submitted billings and credit
appropriate accounts:
• Sufficient manual dexterity with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the
employee to operate computer equipment, ten key calculator and other office equipment;
• Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable
accommodation, which permits the employee to work in an office setting.
