HomeMy WebLinkAbout1751 Elizabeth 14-1972 and 14-1564 YMCA Pool HRV Heaters BO Interpretation Mandi Thompson From:Jarrod Bordi Sent:Thursday, August 21, 2014 12:48 PM To:'jared2611@gmail.com'; Doug Gietzen; jay@terrysheating.com; 'gary@ymcatf.com' Cc:Raub Owens; Vernon L. Sanders Subject:YMCA Pool HRV/Heaters Attachments:photo.jpg; photo 2.jpg All, I made a field inspection today to look at the new ventilation/heating equipment being installed in the existing YMCA pool room (attached pictures show existing and new units). There were two existing dehumidifying units located within this pool room that have been removed (one on the North and one on the South end). The new HRV units both have internal duct heaters that I believe fall under article 680.27 (c)(1) of the 2014 NEC, which will require a 5 foot horizontal distance from the inside walls of the pool. The North duct heater appears to meet the 5 foot separation, but the South one doesn’t. Also, the HRV units are also subject to a horizontal separation distance. However, there is no specific code section for an HRV under article 680, so section 680.22 (d) appears to be the best application. This section would require a 10 ft. horizontal separation from the HRV to the inside walls of the pool. I have determined that the HRV units can be located in the same vicinity of the ones that were removed, but both duct heaters will need to meet the 5 foot separation requirement. This will require the South HRV unit and duct heater to be moved, but the North unit can remain in its current location. Everything will need to be GFCI protected and bonded. I believe this will offer at least an equal level of safety (or improved) compared to the existing units that removed. The new HRV units are fully enclosed with gaskets on the doors. These new units will also provide much needed ventilation to this pool room and potentially reduce the obvious corrosion taking place.
