Job Summary:
The Library Technology Analyst plays a vital role in empowering the library community
with essential digital literacy skills and ensuring the smooth operation of the library's
public technology resources. This position is responsible for providing exceptional
technical assistance and training to library patrons and staff, maintaining and optimizing
public computer systems, and collaborating with departments to enhance technology
services.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide friendly and knowledgeable technical assistance and training to library patrons,
including troubleshooting basic technology issues, assisting with third-party software and
online resources, and promoting digital literacy through one-on-one help.
• Cultivate a digitally fluent community by providing comprehensive training courses and
presentations that enhance individuals' technological understanding and capabilities.
• Collaborate with library staff to establish and meet goals for public support services while
staying informed on technology trends, standards, and best practices in information
technology.
• Supervise and enforce policies and procedures related to technology services.
• Train, supervise, and evaluate staff operating public computer stations.
• Maintain and optimize public computer systems on the library's network. This involves
proactively monitoring workstation performance, troubleshooting hardware and software
problems with Linux-based systems, and ensuring the stable operation of all technology
services.
• Maintain and update the library website.
• Maintain and oversee printing station operations.
• Assist in the coordination and development of digitization projects using digital resource
platforms.
• Work with the Lynx Consortium IT committee and staff on ILS updates.
• Foster a positive working environment for staff, promoting teamwork and support.
• Supervise online database searches and inquiries related to database usage.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to communicate technical topics effectively to non-technical users.
• Ability to troubleshoot Windows 10/11 Professional and Debian based Linux desktop
distributions.
• Experience with web applications, databases, and general web programming
(HTML5/CSS3/JavaScript, Python, PHP, and MySQL).
• Ability to exhibit positive and strong interpersonal skills, particularly in challenging or
stressful situations.
• Strong communication skills with library management, staff, and City IT personnel.
• Team-oriented approach with a willingness to learn emerging technologies.
• Competence in documenting workstation changes and updates.
• Strong foundation in troubleshooting with an understanding of IT best practices for
computer hardware and basic networking.
• Familiarity with case management and troubleshooting ticket systems.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or
equivalent experience).
Preferred Qualifications
• Industry certifications (CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Linux+, Microsoft
365 Certification).
• Familiarity with Library technology vendors such as iii, 3M, EnvisionWare, MKSolutions
products.
Physical Demands:
• Continuous: Seeing, talking, hearing, manual dexterity.
• Frequent: Sitting for extended periods, walking, standing, grasping, keyboarding,
repetitive motion of hands/wrists.
• Occasional: Kneeling, stooping, reaching, bending, crouching, twisting, squatting, and
lifting/pulling/carrying objects weighing 50 to 75 pounds.
