Re: Compliance Determination Letter—Sanitary Sewer Overflow, Idaho Pollutant Discharge
Elimination System (IPDES) Permit ID0021270
Attention Mr. Erickson:
The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is following up in regard to the sanitary
sewer overflow (SSO) reported by the City of Twin Falls via the IPDES 24-hour noncompliance
hotline on July 16, 2024, and via a 5-day written report on July 22, 2024.The City has provided
the following details regarding the event:
• Untreated wastewater flooded the field to the west of the Rock Creek Lift Station after a
failure of the SCADA to call out that there was an issue with the macerator. During the
event, approximately 10,000 gallons exited the nearby property and discharged to Rock
Creek in four locations.
This letter serves to notify the City that a permit violation has been assigned to the event as a
Discharge to Waters. The forementioned violation from this event is being reviewed at the DEQ
State Office for potential follow-up action.
DEQ appreciates your cooperation regarding this matter and encourages you to continue your
compliance efforts; responsibility for compliance with the IPDES permit rests with the
permittee. If you have any questions concerning this matter, please do not hesitate to contact
me at (208) 737-3862 or brandi.lowe@deq.idaho.gov.
Sincerely,
Brandi Lowe
IPDES Compliance Officer
