RE: Wastewater spill May 13,2023, 850& 875 Shoshone Street
To whom it may concern:
On May 13,2023,the City of Twin Falls received a call at 12:10 pm concerning a manhole overflowing
at Rosas Old Towne Laundry at 875 Shoshone St South(Map 1,Picture 1). The spill report was given to
the on-call wastewater collection staff,who arrived onsite at 12:25 pm.
Wastewater staff quickly went to the Public Works yard nearby and grabbed a jetting truck, and
proceeded to the next manhole downstream behind Cheverria's at 850 Shoshone Street South(Picture 2);
at this location,there was also wastewater spilling out of the manhole. Staff then proceeded to the next
downstream manhole(C5-21)between Hamilton Manufacturing and Magic Valley Recycling. From this
location,the blockage was approximately 370-385 feet up the sewer line and was cleared by
approximately 1:04 pm. The blockage was found to have been caused by an accumulation of grease and
rags.
The reported location of the spill at Rosas Old Towne Laundry at 875 Shoshone St South(Picture 1)
spilled into the parking lot. Then it went into an adjacent small stormwater retention basin.No wastewater
escaped from the stormwater retention basin.
The second spill location at Cheverria's at 850 Shoshone Street South(Picture 2)also spilled into the
parking lot. However, approximately 300 gallons of wastewater left the edge of the parking lot into the
vegetation(Picture 3). The wastewater that left the edge of the parking lot soaked into the ground and no
wastewater was discharged into the waters of the US.
All wastewater possible was vacuumed up at both spill locations,and the area was sprayed with a Sani-
Solution(Picture 4).Approximately 1,500 gallons of wastewater were recovered and disposed of at the
wastewater treatment plant.
