Does this draft look okay? DRAFT: City Investigates Wastewater Foaming Event, Reminds Public About Proper Disposal The City of Twin Falls Public Works Department is investigating an unusual foaming event within the municipal wastewater collection system that occurred on Sunday, March 30. At about noon on Sunday, a significant discharge of soap or detergent entered the City's wastewater system, leading to excessive foaming. Evidence suggests the discharge likely originated from a commercial business. The City is seeking information regarding the source of the discharge. Anyone who may have information related to this incident is asked to contact the Public Works Department at 208- 736-2275. Public assistance is vital in effectively addressing this matter and preventing future costly occurrences. This event also serves as an important reminder to residents and businesses to not dispose of fats, oils, greases, solids or solvents in wastewater drains, and for businesses to properly maintain grease traps, interceptors, and other wastewater pretreatment equipment. Businesses are encouraged to review their operational procedures to ensure compliance with City ordinances and prevent accidental discharges that can disrupt the wastewater collection and treatment system. The City reminds businesses that if accidental spills or discharges occur, promptly contacting the Public Works Department at 208-736-2275 is crucial. Early notification allows City staff to take appropriate steps within the collection and treatment system to mitigate potential problems. For questions regarding this incident or wastewater discharge regulations, please visit the City website at TFID.ORG or contact the City of Twin Falls Public Works Department at 208-736-2275. ### From: Nathan Erickson <nerickson@tfid.org> Sent: Wednesday, April 2, 2025 4:35 PM To: Joshua J. Palmer <jpalmer@tfid.org> Subject: WWC foaming event 1 Hi Josh, Last Sunday, we encountered an unusual issue with foam or soap suds emerging from a manhole. This is not typical, and we believe it likely originated from a car wash or a hotel. We have sent letters to all local car washes and hotels, but we thought it might be beneficial to also post a copy of the letter on the city website. This could help raise awareness about the problems that can arise when large amounts of soap or detergent are discharged into the collection system. Let me know if you have any questions.
